Abstract

The IceCube Neutrino Observatory detects particles produced from cosmic rays and neutrinos to explore the high-energy universe. It consists of a deep in-ice Cherenkov detector, IceCube and is complemented by IceTop, a square-kilometer surface detector. IceTop studies a wide range of topics in cosmic-ray science. An overview of results from the joint analysis of IceCube and IceTop data will be presented, including recent results about galactic neutrino emission as well as the measurement of the high-energy cosmic ray mass composition, GeV muon density and a search for the prompt atmospheric neutrino flux with IceCube. An outlook on the planned extension IceCube-Gen2 will be given.

Report #1 by Anonymous (Referee 1) on 2025-9-3 (Invited Report)

Strengths

The paper is a good summary of IceCube's achievements in fundamental astroparticle physics

Weaknesses

Too wordy and not information dense enough. But perhaps ok for a proceeding draft.

Report

Yes, it is fine.

Requested changes

General comment : The proceeding is fine but uses too many words to convey too little scientific information.

Language “detects particles produced from cosmic rays and neutrinos to explore the high-energy universe”.
The Abstract doesn’t read formal enough. Not just the above sentence but also the rest of it.

“Thousand of digital optical modules”
it is possible to be more precise while using less words, by specifying just how many DOMs there are in numbers

This dataset not only exemplifies the potential of machine learning in astrophysics but also sets the stage for future research aimed at pinpointing specific high-energy neutrino sources within the galaxy. This breakthrough sets a foundation for neutrino astronomy, offering a new lens for exploring cosmic phenomena beyond what is possible with traditional electromagnetic observations.
These sentences are too wordy and don’t convey any meaningful information.

Line 43 : Cosmic Rays Analysis Results - > Cosmic Rays’ Analysis results
Or, results from the analyses of Cosmic Ray data.

Line 56 57 : These models are crucial for indirect composition measurements, yet their limitations emphasize a significant uncertainty in interpreting cosmic ray data.
Current research continues to focus on refining these models to better align with experimental data and improve compositional determinations.
First sentence feels repetitive from the previous paragraph. Second sentence would be better with more specifics or references.
