• Jordan meets Freudenthal. A black hole exceptional story

  Within the extremal black hole attractors arising in ungauged $\mathcal{N}≥ 2$-extended Maxwell Einstein supergravity theories in $3+1$ space-time dimensions, we provide an overview of the stratification of the electric-magnetic charge representation space into "large" orbits and related "moduli spaces", under the action of the (continuous limit of the) non-compact $U$-duality Lie group. While each "large" orbit of the $U$-duality supports a class of attractors, the corresponding " moduli space" is the proper subspace of the scalar manifold spanned by those scalar fields on which the Attractor Mechanism is inactive. We present the case study concerning $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity theories with symmetric vector multiplets' scalar manifold, which in all cases (with the exception of the minimally coupled models) have the electric-magnetic charge representation of $U$-duality fitting into a reduced Freudenthal triple system over a cubic (simple or semi-simple) Jordan algebra.

• Topological defects in a double-mirror quadrupole insulator displace diverging charge

  We show that topological defects in quadrupole insulators do not host quantized fractional charges, contrary to what their Wannier representation indicates. In particular, we test the charge quantization hypothesis based on the Wannier representation of a disclination and a parametric defect. Since disclinations necessarily strain the lattice and parametric defects require closed curves in parameter space, both defects break four-fold rotation symmetry, even away from their origin. The Wannier representation of the defects is thus determined by local reflection symmetries. Contrary to the hypothesis, we find that the local charge density decays as $\sim 1/r^2$ with distance, leading to a diverging defect charge. Because topological defects are incompatible with four-fold rotation symmetry, we conclude that defect charge quantization is protected by sublattice symmetry, and not higher order topology.

• Crystallography, group cohomology, and Lieb–Schultz–Mattis constraints

  We compute the mod-2 cohomology ring for three-dimensional (3D) space groups and establish a connection between them and the lattice structure of crystals with space group symmetry. This connection allows us to obtain a complete set of Lieb-Schultz-Mattis constraints, specifying the conditions under which a unique, symmetric, gapped ground state cannot exist in 3D lattice magnets. We associate each of these constraints with an element in the third mod-2 cohomology of the space group, when the internal symmetry acts on-site and its projective representations are classified by powers of $\mathbb{Z}_2$. We demonstrate the relevance of our results to the study of $U(1)$ quantum spin liquids on the 3D pyrochlore lattice. We determine, through anomaly matching, the symmetry fractionalization patterns of both electric and magnetic charges, extending previous results from projective symmetry group classifications.

• Heavy-light $N+1$ clusters of two-dimensional fermions

  We study binding of $N$ identical heavy fermions by a light atom in two dimensions assuming zero-range attractive heavy-light interactions. By using the mean-field theory valid for large $N$ we show that the $N+1$ cluster is bound when the mass ratio exceeds $1.074N^2$. The mean-field theory, being scale invariant in two dimensions, predicts only the shapes of the clusters leaving their sizes and energies undefined. By taking into account beyond-mean-field effects we find closed-form expressions for these quantities. We also discuss differences between the Thomas-Fermi and Hartree-Fock approaches for treating the heavy fermions.

  Relativistic Faddeev-Yakubovsky four-nucleon scattering equations are derived including a 3-body force. We present these equations in the momentum space representation. The quadratic integral equations using the iteration method, in order to obtain boosted potentials and 3-body force, are demonstrated.

• Acceleration from a clustering environment

  We study the effects of correlations in a random environment on a random walker. The dependence of its asymptotic speed on the correlations is a nonperturbative effect as it is not captured by a homogeneous version of the same environment. For a slowly cooling environment, the buildup of correlations modifies the walker's speed and, by so, realizes acceleration. We remark on the possible relevance in the discussion of cosmic acceleration as traditionally started from the Friedmann equations, which, from a statistical mechanical point of view, would amount to a mean-field approximation. Our environment is much simpler though, with transition rates sampled from the one-dimensional Ising model and allowing exact results and detailed velocity characteristics.

  We present a multi-parton extension of the so-called small-$\boldsymbol{x}$ Improved Transverse Momentum Dependent (ITMD) factorization for hadroproduction of three or more jets in the forward rapidity region, allowing to study gluon saturation using such processes.

• Recent Studies of Exotic Hadrons at the LHCb Experiment

  Recent results on studies of exotic hadrons at the LHCb experiment are summarised. These are the observation of new resonances decaying to J/$\psi K^{+}$ and J/$\psi\phi$, evidence of a J/$\psi\Lambda$ structure and observation of excited $\Xi^{-}$ states in the $\Xi_{b}^{-}\to J/\psi \Lambda K^{-}$ decay and the study of $B_{s}^{0}\to J/\psi\pi^{+}\pi^{-}K^{+}K^{-}$ decays.

• Searches for new physics that couple with third generation fermions

  The $\tau$ lepton, with a mass of $1776.86 ± 0.12$ MeV, is unique in its ability to decay into hadrons and a neutrino. Approximately one-third of $\tau$ decays produce an electron or a muon and two neutrinos, denoted as $\tau_e$ and $\tau_\mu$. The remaining decays, mainly involving hadrons and a tau neutrino, are denoted as $\tau_h$. At the CERN LHC, searches involving $\tau$ leptons are crucial for studying the decay of Higgs bosons to $\tau$ pairs, probing Yukawa couplings, and CP properties of the Higgs. These measurements support Standard Model (SM) tests and searches for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics, including new or heavy Higgs bosons, leptoquarks, supersymmetric particles, or gauge bosons. The $\tau$ lepton polarization in Z boson decays is also significant for probing the SM. Despite its potential as a portal to new physics, the $\tau$ lepton's decay products, especially neutrinos and hadrons, make its reconstruction and identification challenging at the LHC. At the CMS experiment, neutrinos contribute to Missing Transverse Energy (MET), and hadronically decaying $\tau$ leptons are often misidentified as jets, complicating the separation of $\tau$-involved processes from background processes.

• Super-resolving normalising flows for lattice field theories

  We propose a renormalisation group inspired normalising flow that combines benefits from traditional Markov chain Monte Carlo methods and standard normalising flows to sample lattice field theories. Specifically, we use samples from a coarse lattice field theory and learn a stochastic map to the targeted fine theory. The devised architecture allows for systematic improvements and efficient sampling on lattices as large as $128 × 128$ in all phases when only having sampling access on a $4× 4$ lattice. This paves the way for reaping the benefits of traditional MCMC methods on coarse lattices while using normalising flows to learn transformations towards finer grids, aligning nicely with the intuition of super-resolution tasks. Moreover, by optimising the base distribution, this approach allows for further structural improvements besides increasing the expressivity of the model.
