• Study of light nuclei by polarization observables in electron scattering

  Electron-induced proton, neutron and deuteron knock-out remains the most versatile probe of the electro-magnetic properties and spin structure of light nuclei. The advent of highly polarized beams and targets and improvements in recoil polarization methods, as well as analysis and simulation techniques, have enabled us to study the static and dynamical properties of few-body systems with unprecedented precision. Recent experiments at Jefferson Lab and MAMI are presented and put into perspective of state-of-the art Faddeev calculations, with focus on the $^\mathbf{3}\mathbf{He}$ nucleus.

• Experimental input from $e^+e^-$ for $a_{\mu}$ light-by-light

  The anomalous magnetic momentum of the muon, $a_{\mu}$, has been measured and calculated with a precision up to $~0.5$ ppm, but there is a 3 to 4 standard deviations between these two values. The uncertainty in the calculation is dominated by the hadronic part, including the hadronic vacuum polarization and the hadronic light-by-light. The meson transition form factors and the helicity amplitudes can be used as input or constraint to the calculation of the hadronic light-by-light contribution. Latest experimental studies of the transition form factors of $\pi^0$, $\eta$, and $\eta^{*}$ and the cross-section of $\gamma\gamma^*\to\pi^+\pi-$from $e^+e^-$ collider are presented.

• The Higgs mechanism with diagrams: A didactic approach

  We present a paedagogical treatment of the electroweak Higgs mechanism based solely on Feynman diagrams and S-matrix elements, without recourse to (gauge) symmetry arguments. Throughout, the emphasis is on Feynman rules and the Schwinger-Dyson equations; it is pointed out that particular care is needed in the treatment of tadpole diagrams and their symmetry factors.

• Photon counting statistics in Gaussian bosonic networks

  The statistics of transmitted photons in microwave cavities play a foundational role in microwave quantum optics and its technological applications. By utilizing quantum mechanical phase-space methods, we here develop a general theory of the photon counting statistics in Gaussian bosonic networks consisting of driven cavities with beamsplitter interactions and two-mode-squeezing. The dynamics of the network can be captured by a Lyapunov equation for the covariance matrix of the cavity fields, which generalizes to a Riccati equation, when counting fields are included. By solving the Riccati equation, we obtain the statistics of emitted and absorbed photons as well as the time-dependent correlations encoded in waiting time distributions and second-order coherence functions. To illustrate our theoretical framework, we first apply it to a simple linear network consisting of two coupled cavities, for which we evaluate the photon cross-correlations and discuss connections between the photon emission statistics and the entanglement between the cavities. We then consider a bosonic circulator consisting of three coupled cavities, for which we investigate how a synthetic flux may affect the direction of the photon flow, similarly to recent experiments. Our general framework paves the way for systematic investigations of the photon counting statistics in Gaussian bosonic networks.

• Resonating valence bonds and spinon pairing in the Dicke model

  Resonating valence bond (RVB) states are a class of entangled quantum many body wavefunctions with great significance in condensed matter physics. We propose a scheme to synthesize a family of RVB states using a cavity QED setup with two-level atoms (with states $\vert 0 \rangle$ and $\vert 1 \rangle$) coupled to a common photon mode. In the lossy cavity limit, starting with an initial state of $M$ atoms excited and $N$ atoms in the ground state, we show that this setup can be configured as a Stern Gerlach experiment. A measurement of photon emission collapses the wavefunction of atoms onto an RVB state composed of resonating long-ranged singlets of the form $\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}[\vert 0 1 \rangle - \vert 1 0 \rangle]$. Each emitted photon reduces the number of singlets by unity, replacing it with a pair of lone spins or `spinons'. As spinons are formed coherently in pairs, they are analogous to Cooper pairs in a superconductor. To simulate pair fluctuations, we propose a protocol in which photons are allowed to escape the cavity undetected. This leads to a mixed quantum state with a fluctuating number of spinon pairs -- an inchoate superconductor. Remarkably, in the limit of large system sizes, this protocol reveals an underlying quantum phase transition. Upon tuning the initial spin polarization ($M-N$), the emission exhibits a continuous transition from a dark state to a bright state. This is reflected in the spinon pair number distribution which can be tuned from sub-poissonian to super-poissonian regimes. This opens an exciting route to simulate RVB states and superconductivity.

• The diagrammatic coaction and cuts of the double box

  The diagrammatic coaction encodes the analytic structure of Feynman integrals by mapping any given Feynman diagram into a tensor product of diagrams defined by contractions and cuts of the original diagram. Feynman integrals evaluate to generalized hypergeometric functions in dimensional regularization. Establishing the coaction on this type of functions has helped formulating and checking the diagrammatic coaction of certain two-loop integrals. In this talk we study its application on the fully massless double box diagram. We make use of differential equation techniques, which, together with the properties of homology and cohomology theory of the resulting hypergeometric functions, allow us to formulate the coaction on a range of cuts of the double box in closed form.

• Monopole breaking of Chern-Weil symmetries

  Gauge theories in $d$ dimensions with a nontrivial fundamental group admit a $(d-3)$-form magnetic symmetry and a $(d-5)$-form instantonic symmetry. These are examples of Chern-Weil symmetries, with conserved currents built out of the gauge field strength, which can only be explicitly broken through violations of the Bianchi identity. For U(1) gauge theory, it is clear that magnetic monopoles violate not only the $(d-3)$-form magnetic symmetry but also lower-form symmetries like the instantonic symmetry. It is also known that an improved instanton number symmetry current, which is conserved, can be constructed in the case that the magnetic monopole admits a dyonic excitation. We study the generalization to other gauge groups, showing that magnetic monopoles also violate instantonic symmetries for nonabelian groups like PSU($n$), and that dyon modes can restore such symmetries. Furthermore, we show that in many (but not all) examples where a gauge group $G$ is Higgsed to a gauge group $H$, the structure of monopoles and dyons emerging from the Higgsing process explicitly breaks the instantonic symmetries of $H$ to those of $G$. The meaning of explicit breaking of a $(d-5)$-form symmetry is clearest for $d > 4$, but these results also extend to $d = 4$, where the breaking is interpreted as an obstruction to coupling the theory to a background axion field.

  We study the Izergin-Korepin Gaudin models with both periodic and open integrable boundary conditions, which describe quantum systems exhibiting novel long-range interactions. Using the Bethe Ansatz approach, we derive the eigenvalues of the Gaudin operators and the corresponding Bethe Ansatz equations.

• Classification of topological insulators and superconductors with multiple order-two point group symmetries

  We present a method for computing the classification groups of topological insulators and superconductors in the presence of $\mathbb{Z}_2^{× n}$ point group symmetries, for arbitrary natural numbers $n$. Each symmetry class is characterized by four possible additional symmetry types for each generator of $\mathbb{Z}_2^{× n}$, together with bit values encoding whether pairs of generators commute or anticommute. We show that the classification is fully determined by the number of momentum- and real-space variables flipped by each generator, as well as the number of variables simultaneously flipped by any pair of generators. As a concrete illustration, we provide the complete classification table for the case of $\mathbb{Z}_2^{× 2}$ point group symmetry.
